Hungary curbs gas to Ukraine over oil pipeline dispute
Hungary will curb gas flows to Ukraine until oil deliveries resume via the Druzhba pipeline. Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced the move on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Viktor Orban has announced that Hungary will begin a phased reduction of natural gas exports to Ukraine. This move is a direct response to the continued disruption of crude oil deliveries via the Druzhba pipeline, which originates in Russia and passes through Ukrainian territory to reach Central European refineries.
The decision marks a significant escalation in the energy dispute between Budapest and Kyiv. Both the Hungarian government and Slovakia have pointed to Ukrainian interference or negligence as the cause of the oil flow stoppage. Conversely, Ukrainian officials maintain that the pipeline sustained damage during a drone strike in late January and insist that repair efforts are currently underway.
