Hungary halts 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine until oil flow resumes
Hungary will block a 90 billion euro EU loan to Ukraine until oil transit resumes. Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto says the stoppage violates EU agreements.
Hungary
HU announced on February 20, 2026, that it will block a €90 billion European Union loan to Ukraine
UA until oil transit to Hungary via the Druzhba pipeline resumes. The Hungarian government has explicitly conditioned the large-scale financial disbursement on the resumption of energy transit, citing the need for energy security.
The move was detailed by Peter Szijjarto, who indicated that the blockage would remain in effect until the flow of oil is restored. In making this announcement, the Hungarian government invoked an alleged breach of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. Hungary claims that the current status of the Druzhba pipeline transit violates the terms of the agreement between the European Union and Ukraine.
