Hong Kong Regulators Raid Guotai Junan and Detain Staff
Hong Kong watchdogs raided Guotai Junan and detained an employee on Tuesday. The firm suspended the staff member while maintaining normal business operations.
Guotai Junan International Holdings Limited has confirmed that financial regulators in Hong Kong conducted a raid on its principal place of business and detained an employee as part of a joint investigation. The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) and the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) executed search warrants at the firm's offices on March 10, seizing various documents. The company clarified that the detained individual is not a member of its board of directors.
In response to the regulatory action, the firm took immediate administrative steps regarding the staff member involved.
In light of the investigation, the company has, with effect from 10 March 2026, immediately suspended the relevant employee from all operational and executive duties and authority until further notice.
The raid on the brokerage follows reports that the local unit of CITIC Securities Company Limited was also visited by authorities. This enforcement activity arrives as the region's capital markets experience a notable recovery. In 2025, the city was the world's leading venue for initial public offerings, with total equity fundraising jumping 164% to $103 billion. This growth was primarily attributed to a sharp increase in equity offerings by companies from China.
Guotai Junan International maintains that its business segments, including investment banking, continue to operate normally. The firm is currently seeking further details regarding the scope and nature of the investigation.
