Hong Kong Watchdog Raids Citic and Guotai Junan Units
The Securities and Futures Commission raided Citic and Guotai Junan offices on Tuesday. The probe focuses on the handling of recent share sale transactions.
The securities regulatory body in Hong Kong has initiated an investigation into the local operations of CITIC Securities Company Limited concerning the handling of several recent share sale transactions. On Tuesday, the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) reportedly raided the offices of CLSA, which serves as the offshore arm for the Beijing-based brokerage firm. The enforcement action is said to have targeted the equity capital market divisions of both the Citic subsidiary and Guotai Junan International Holdings Ltd. During the proceedings, authorities reportedly removed at least one senior executive for questioning. A spokesperson for the SFC has declined to provide a statement on the matter, while the involved financial institutions did not immediately provide a response. This investigation occurs against a backdrop of significant expansion in the local capital markets. The region was ranked as the premier global venue for market listings in 2025, with total equity fundraising climbing 164% to reach $103 billion. This surge was largely attributed to a recovery in equity offerings by corporations from China, according to data provided by the local stock exchange.
