Naftogaz and OMV Petrom Negotiate Black Sea Gas Project
Naftogaz and OMV Petrom are in talks to develop a Black Sea gas field. The partnership aims to start work once the regional conflict has officially ended.
The state-owned energy company Naftogaz is in preliminary talks with OMV PETROM SA regarding a potential partnership to develop significant offshore gas reserves in the Black Sea. This discovery was made by Ukraine prior to the invasion by Russia, and its development could challenge existing energy dynamics in Europe. Industry sources indicate that the field is one of the most promising in a region where Romania and Turkey are already working on their own deposits. Although discussions are in the early stages, development is not expected to begin until after the war ends. The project represents a strategic effort to bolster regional energy independence and leverage untapped maritime resources.
