Ukraine seeks more LNG and diesel supplies from Greece
Naftogaz is working to increase fuel imports through Greek terminals and the Vertical Corridor. The move aims to secure gas reserves and diesel supplies.
Ukraine has initiated efforts to bolster its energy reserves for the upcoming winter, focusing on increasing liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies through terminals in Greece. The state-run energy company Naftogaz is specifically looking to utilize the Vertical Corridor system to facilitate these imports. While the country already receives United States LNG via Greek infrastructure, current volumes represent only a small fraction of its total energy requirements.
The infrastructure for the Vertical Gas Corridor was established following a 2016 agreement between Greece and its regional partners, including Bulgaria, Romania, and Hungary. This network is designed to enable bidirectional gas transmission, providing a critical link for energy security across the Eastern European region.
