Malaysia raises 2026 economic growth outlook to 5 percent
Malaysia raised its 2026 growth forecast to 5% citing strong domestic demand. The central bank expects resilience despite trade risks and higher fuel costs.
Malaysia has revised its economic growth forecast for 2026 upward, signaling resilience despite significant global trade disruptions and rising energy costs. According to the central bank's annual report released on Tuesday, the economy is now projected to expand between 4% and 5% this year, an increase from the previous estimate of 4% to 4.5%.
The upward revision by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) comes at a time when many global economies are bracing for a slowdown due to conflicts in the Middle East and shifting trade policies. Officials noted that the nation’s status as a net energy exporter provides a vital cushion against fluctuating oil prices, while domestic demand remains a primary engine for growth.
