Malaysia Lifts 2026 Economic Growth Forecast to 5 Percent
Malaysia raised its 2026 growth forecast to 5% citing strong domestic demand and exports. The central bank warned that a prolonged Iran war poses risks.
Malaysia is projected to see stronger economic growth in 2026 than previously anticipated, despite the ongoing challenges posed by international trade disruptions and the conflict involving Iran. Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) announced on Tuesday that it has revised its growth forecast upward to a range of 4% to 5%, citing robust domestic spending and a healthy demand for electronics. This update comes as the nation navigates the broader economic impacts of geopolitical instability and tariffs from the United States.
According to the central bank's 2025 annual report, the upward revision is supported by strong household consumption and a steady recovery in the tourism sector. While the bank has accounted for various regional conflict scenarios, officials noted that a prolonged war would present significant risks to the current outlook.
