Kenya launches 500 million dollar debt buyback to ease financing pressures

Kenya has launched a tender to buy back 500 million dollars of existing bonds. New longer-term dollar bonds will fund the move to help stabilize the economy.

The Government of Kenya KEKE announced on February 18 that it has launched buy-back tenders to repurchase a portion of its outstanding sovereign debt. The operation involves repurchasing up to $350 million of the 8% bond due 2032 and up to $150 million of the 7.25% bond due 2028, with the offer prices inclusive of accrued interest.
