Priced at nine shillings per share, this landmark sale surpasses the previous regional record set by the 2008 Safaricom PLC offering, which raised just over 50 billion shillings. While the Safaricom PLClisting may still rank as the largest in terms of the US Dollar / Kenyan Shilling value at the time given the weakening of the Kenyan shilling over the past 17 years, the current pipeline sale represents a massive injection of liquidity into the local market.
The subscription period for the offering is scheduled to conclude on February 19, with shares expected to begin trading on the Nairobi bourse on March 9, 2026. Lead transaction adviser Faida is managing the process and has outlined a specific allocation framework for the 65% stake. Under this structure, 15% is reserved for oil marketing companies and 5% for employees. The remaining 80% of the offer is divided equally, with 20% each allocated to local retail investors, local institutional investors, East African institutional investors, and foreign institutional investors. Following the completion of the sale, the government of Kenyawill retain a 35% stake in the utility.
