Judge Blocks Voter Removal Demands

A US judge ordered the Trump administration to stop demanding California segregate ballots cast by suspected noncitizens. The ruling follows a Supreme Court decision rejecting a bid to block the counting of mail-in votes.

Midterm election ballots are extracted from envelopes at the Los Angeles County Ballot Processing Center the same day US President Donald Trump's administration asked the Supreme Court to temporarily block California from counting mail-in ballots from more than 20,000 registered voters who federal officials allege are likely non-US citizens, in City of Industry, California, US, November 2, 2026.

A federal judge ordered the United States administration on Monday afternoon to halt demands that California election officials segregate ballots cast by voters on suspected noncitizen lists. The ruling arrived just one day before midterm elections as lawmakers battle for congressional control. US District Judge James Boasberg ruled that the compiled lists contained severe flaws and wrongfully targeted eligible citizens.
