US Hospitals Confirm Readiness for Ebola Patients
Nine of the thirteen federally funded special pathogen centers in the United States have confirmed they are prepared to treat Ebola patients as the outbreak in the Congo continues. Public health experts are urging the government to repatriate sick citizens rather than using a planned quarantine site in Kenya.
Nine of 13 United States treatment centers in a government-funded hospital network are ready to handle Ebola patients as HHS maintains $21 million in annual funding. The network was established following the 2014 West Africa outbreak to ensure domestic readiness for high-consequence infectious diseases. The current strategy includes a plan to quarantine exposed citizens in Kenya rather than repatriating them to these prepared facilities.
