Upstate Voters Decide on Penny Tax Proposals

Voters across Greenville County are deciding the fate of five penny sales tax proposals aimed at funding local infrastructure and capital projects. The proposed one cent tax would generate billions for roads and public transit.

Greenville City Council approved the first reading of a 1% sales and use tax on July 13.

Voters across five Upstate jurisdictions are deciding the fate of 1% sales tax proposals on election night to fund capital projects. The measures follow previous failed referendum efforts in 2024 and 2014, testing voter appetite for local infrastructure investment. Passing these taxes would add one cent to each dollar spent on discretionary items over an eight-year period.
