Tennessee voting leave rules for midterms

Tennessee law allows eligible employees up to three hours of paid time off to vote in the midterm elections. Workers must notify their employers by noon the day before the vote.

A “vote here” sign is seen outside of the Shelby County Election Commission within the James Meredith Building on the first day of early voting in Downtown Memphis, Tenn., on October 14, 2026.

Tennessee voters head to the polls for the final day of the 2026 midterms, choosing a governor, one U.S. senator, and nine members of the U.S. House. Early voting turnout reached 26% of registered voters across the state, marking a 45% increase compared to the 2022 midterms. State laws allow eligible workers up to three paid hours off to vote, provided they notify employers by noon on November 2.
