SBI Life Insurance Reports Nearly 5 Percent Rise in Third Quarter Profit as Tax Changes Boost Sales

This performance was largely driven by higher premium collections after taxes on individual life insurance products were lowered to zero from 18% earlier. CEO Amit Jhingran amit jhingransaid the GST exemption on individual policies contributed to improved affordability and aided demand during the quarter.
Net premium income for SBI Life Insurance Company Limited grew 22% to 302.45 billion rupees for the quarter. Growth was supported by one-time single premiums, which rose 24% in the period, while premiums from older policies that were renewed increased nearly 21% in the quarter. According to a Reuters calculation, annualised premium equivalent (APE) sales—a metric that conveys the annualised total value of all single and recurring premium policies—rose nearly 25% to 86 billion rupees during the quarter. Analysts at Motilal Oswal said strong growth in SBI Life Insurance Company Limitedwould be driven largely by its bancassurance channel.
