Poland will maintain fuel price caps as long as needed
Poland will keep fuel price caps until wholesale costs fall steadily to mitigate Middle East conflict risks. Minister Milosz Motyka says supplies are secure.
The government of Poland has confirmed it will maintain measures to cap fuel prices for as long as necessary, Energy Minister Milosz Motyka announced. The decision to keep these protections in place is tied to the stability of wholesale prices, with any potential phase-out planned to occur only when market rates begin a steady decline. This policy follows an initiative launched late last month to reduce fuel taxes and limit costs at the pump to protect the domestic economy from the fallout of ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
The fiscal impact of these measures is significant, with estimates suggesting a reduction in budget revenue of approximately 1.6 billion zlotys per month. Despite this, officials maintain that the strategy provides the country with some of the lowest prices in Europe and a guaranteed security of supply. The government remains cautious about regional risks that could impact the USD/PLN exchange rate and overall energy costs.
