Italy Asks EU for 8 Billion Euros
Italy has formally requested eight billion euros from the European Union defence funding program. The funds will help Rome finance planned spending at lower interest rates to meet NATO targets.

Italy has requested €8 billion ($9.3 billion) from the European Union's SAFE defence funding programme to finance planned military spending. The formal request follows months of internal friction within Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's governing coalition over defence outlays. The joint borrowing scheme allows Rome to secure funding at lower interest rates than available on commercial debt markets.
