Italy lags European peers in female employment rates
Italy trails European peers with a 53.2 percent female employment rate. This gap limits economic growth, though closing it could boost GDP by ten percent.
Italy's economic trajectory and demographic health are facing significant headwinds due to a persistent gender gap in the workforce. A new report from the Rita Levi-Montalcini SVIMEZ – W20 Observatory indicates that the nation continues to trail its major international peers in female employment, a factor that complicates efforts to manage the nation's substantial public debt and declining birth rate.
The study ranks the country 11th among G20 nations, placing it behind the United Kingdom, Germany, and France. Notably, the report also finds the country lagging behind Mexico, Brazil, and South Africa in gender employment metrics.
