Indian Markets Rise as Financials Snap Losing Streak
Indian markets rose on Friday as financials led a broad rally. The Nifty and Sensex are set for weekly gains following a temporary global ceasefire.
Equity markets in India opened higher on Friday, driven by a broad-based rally led by financial stocks. The Nifty 50 index rose 0.72% to 23,944.95, while the Sensex added 0.70% to reach 77,189.05 as of 9:21 a.m. IST. The broader market sentiment remained positive, with both small-cap and mid-cap indices advancing by approximately 1%.
Thirteen of the 16 major sectoral indices moved upward during the session. High-weight financials led the gains, rising 1.6% on the day and 8.2% for the week. This surge puts the sector on track to end a six-week losing streak that was previously triggered by record-high foreign outflows in March.
