Indian stocks gain as US proposes Iran ceasefire plan
Indian shares rose Wednesday on reports of a US ceasefire plan for Iran. The Nifty 50 and Sensex gained as oil prices fell below 100 dollars per barrel.
Equity markets in India opened with gains on Wednesday as investors reacted positively to reports that the United States is pursuing a month-long ceasefire in its ongoing conflict with Iran. The proposal, which reportedly includes a 15-point plan presented to Tehran, has fueled optimism regarding a potential de-escalation of regional tensions. As of 9:15 a.m. IST, the Nifty 50 index rose 0.66% to reach 23,064.4, while the benchmark index of BSE Limited, the Sensex, climbed 0.79% to 74,652.01. This upward movement marks the second consecutive session of growth for the domestic indices. The rally was broad-based, with 15 out of 16 major sectoral indices logging gains at the opening bell. Broader market segments also performed well, with small-cap and mid-cap stocks advancing by 1.1% and 1%, respectively. Global market sentiment followed a similar trajectory, as Asian equities increased by 1.4%. In the energy sector, crude oil prices retreated below the $100 per barrel threshold on expectations that any move toward a ceasefire could ease supply disruptions. Regarding the diplomatic efforts, United States President Donald Trump indicated that progress was being made toward a resolution. > Washington was making progress toward negotiating an end to the war. While sources have confirmed the delivery of a settlement proposal to Tehran, authorities in Iran have currently denied that any direct negotiations are taking place.
