Indian shares fall on Iran conflict and foreign selling
The Nifty 50 and BSE Sensex declined on Tuesday as persistent geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and record foreign outflows weighed on investor sentiment. Foreign investors have sold 26.4 billion dollars in shares so far in 2026 while Brent crude prices remain elevated near 94 dollars.
India shares fell on Tuesday morning as the Nifty 50 dropped 0.66% to 23,229.15. The decline follows a four-session slide where the index lost 2.7% of its value. Persistent geopolitical conflict and record-breaking foreign capital outflows are driving investor caution.
The BSE Sensex shed 0.43% to 73,945.20 during the morning session, having dropped 2.9% over the same four-session period. Foreign investors sold 39.12 billion rupees ($411.8 million) in shares on Monday, according to provisional data. Total 2026 outflows have reached $26.4 billion, surpassing the previous record of $18.91 billion set in 2025.
