London's stock indexes fell on Monday after the United States moved to blockade shipping from Iran following the collapse of weekend peace talks, a move that dimmed hopes for a swift resolution to the Middle East conflict. The United Kingdom markets were swept up in a global risk-off stance as Brent Crude Oil prices surged back above $100 a barrel.
The blue-chip FTSE 100 index fell 0.4% to 10,558.38 points, while the mid-cap FTSE 250 slipped 0.8%. Both indexes had logged gains last week following a fragile two-week ceasefire, but the collapse of negotiations has renewed market uncertainty.
