Finance ministers warn of lasting Middle East impact
Finance ministers warned today that the Middle East conflict will weigh on global growth even if resolved. They urged nations to avoid protectionist actions.
Finance ministers from more than 10 nations have warned that the conflict in the Middle East will continue to exert pressure on global growth, inflation, and financial markets, even if a durable resolution is achieved. The warning was delivered in a joint statement issued during the IMF and World Bank Spring Meetings in Washington.
The statement, released by the government of the United Kingdom, emphasized that any escalation of hostilities or continued disruption in the Strait of Hormuz would pose significant risks to global energy security and supply chains. Such instability threatens the price of energy commodities like Brent Crude Oil and jeopardizes broader economic stability.
