Denso Proposes 8.3 Billion Dollar Acquisition of Rohm
Japanese auto parts giant Denso has proposed to buy chipmaker Rohm for 1.3 trillion yen. The deal aims to strengthen power semiconductor production for EVs.
DENSO Corporation has proposed to acquire all shares in chipmaker ROHM Co., Ltd. in a deal that could reach as much as 1.3 trillion yen ($8.26 billion), according to a report by the Nikkei business daily on Friday. The transaction, if realized, would establish a major player in the power semiconductor market, which is critical for controlling electricity in electric vehicles and data centers across Japan and global markets.
The proposed merger comes as the automotive industry increasingly focuses on electrification, driving demand for specialized chips. If the deal is finalized, it would represent a significant consolidation of the supply chain for next-generation vehicle technologies. Following the report, the automotive parts giant could not be immediately reached for comment, while a spokesperson for the semiconductor manufacturer stated that the company was currently looking into the details of the news.
