Cambodia seeks UN help to unlock $300 billion in energy
Cambodia will use UN conciliation to resolve a maritime dispute with Thailand. This effort aims to unlock undersea energy assets worth $300 billion total.
Cambodia is seeking a United Nations conciliation process to resolve a maritime dispute with Thailand and unlock $300B in energy resources. The contested 27,000 square km area in the Gulf of Thailand holds 11 trillion cubic feet of Natural Gas. Resolving this boundary deadlock is critical for regional energy security as global Brent Crude Oil supplies face disruptions due to the Russia-Ukraine war and tensions near Iran.
Minister of Mines and Energy Keo Rottanak told Reuters on Wednesday that conflict in the Strait of Hormuz has created the worst-ever global energy crisis. He said the pressure on global supply has brought the energy security of every nation into sharper focus.
