Cambodia Increases Fuel Imports from Singapore and Malaysia
Cambodia is sourcing more fuel from Singapore and Malaysia as China and Vietnam restrict exports. Minister Keo Rottanak says renewables help mitigate risks.
Cambodia is turning to suppliers in Singapore and Malaysia to secure its energy needs as Vietnam and China implement export restrictions. The shift in procurement comes as the global fuel market experiences significant tightening due to the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
The supply disruption has already impacted domestic operations, with approximately one-third of the nation's 6,300 petrol stations closing since last Wednesday. Authorities are currently investigating whether some businesses are hoarding stocks in anticipation of further price hikes. Regional supply chains have been under pressure since July 2025, when Thailand banned fuel exports following an armed conflict with its neighbor.
