Australia LNG output remains disrupted following Narelle
Chevron and Woodside are working to restore LNG production after Narelle hit Western Australia. Thousands of residents in Exmouth remain without power Sunday.
Liquefied natural gas production in Australia remains hampered more than a week after the Narelle storm system hit the country’s northwest, complicating an already tight global energy market. The system, which was downgraded from a tropical cyclone on Saturday, has forced major producers to manage significant outages while the world deals with supply shortages stemming from the month-old war in Iran. Australia recently ascended to the position of the world’s second-largest LNG exporter after Qatar was forced to halt production due to damage from Iranian strikes.
WOODSIDE ENERGY GROUP LTD indicated on Sunday that while its Macedon and Pluto facilities remain unaffected, production at the Karratha gas plant is still interrupted. The Karratha facility is a critical onshore processing site for the North West Shelf project. Similarly, Chevron Corporation has been working to bring its Gorgon and Wheatstone facilities back online. Gorgon is the largest LNG export facility in the country, with three processing trains capable of producing 15.6 million metric tons annually, while Wheatstone produces 8.9 million tons.
