Rio Tinto Group, the world's largest producer of iron ore, has suspended operations at its Amrun and Andoom bauxite mines in Northern Queensland. The move comes as tropical cyclone Narelle impacts northeast Australia, bringing hazardous conditions to the region. These facilities are responsible for an annual output of approximately 30 million metric tons of bauxite, which serves as the primary raw material for aluminum production.
The company confirmed that it has activated comprehensive cyclone response plans to manage the risks associated with the storm.
