Speaking at a press conference regarding the monetary policy outlook for 2026, central bank governor John Mushayavanhu explained the rationale behind the pause in rate adjustments. He noted that while progress has been made, the bank remains committed to a steady policy environment.

We need to make sure inflation is anchored first, therefore the policy rate will remain at 35%.

Recent economic indicators show that inflation in the Southern African nation has slowed considerably. In February, the year-on-year inflation rate was recorded at 3.8% in local currency terms.
