Major benchmarks on Wall Street trended upward on Monday as investors maintained optimism for a diplomatic resolution to tensions between the United States and Iran. While weekend negotiations faced hurdles, market participants shifted their focus toward the commencement of the quarterly earnings season and shifting energy prices.
The S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite gained momentum in the afternoon following statements from the U.S. presidency regarding nuclear negotiations, even as a naval blockade of Iranian ports commenced. Mark Luschini, chief investment strategist at Janney Montgomery Scott, noted that the market appears somewhat desensitized to the fluctuating nature of the talks.
