Voters Decide on Fire District Merger

Voters in Marion and Clackamas counties are deciding whether to merge the Mt. Angel and Monitor fire districts into a single entity. The ballot measures include dissolving the current districts and establishing a new combined tax rate.

The Mt. Angel Fire District is asking voters to let it combine with the Monitor Fire District in the Nov. 3 election.

Voters across Marion and Clackamas counties in the United States are deciding on November 3 whether to combine two local fire districts into a single 72-square-mile entity covering 7,900 residents. The ballot initiative requires the approval of three separate measures to pass, encompassing two dissolutions and a new tax rate. If successful, the reorganization would nearly double property taxes for residents in the coverage area.
