The United States trade deficit widened 4.4% to $60.3 billion in March as an artificial intelligence investment boom drove record imports. The gap increased from February, though it came in below the $60.9 billion deficit economists polled by Reuters forecast. Trade subtracted 1.30 percentage points from first-quarter GDP growth, which reached a 2.2% annualized rate.
