Equities and Oil Gain as US Iran Standoff Continues
Global markets rose as investors weighed ceasefire prospects against threats of more US strikes on Iran. Oil prices ended higher as equities saw modest gains.
Global equity markets maintained slight gains on Monday as investors weighed the potential for a diplomatic resolution between the United States and Iran. While Tehran expressed a desire for a lasting end to the five-week conflict, President Donald Trump reiterated threats of significant strikes against Iranian infrastructure if a deal is not reached by Tuesday evening. This geopolitical tension kept market participants on edge, particularly as the U.S. Defense Secretary warned of an impending increase in military activity.
In the energy sector, West Texas Oil settled higher at $112.41 per barrel, marking a 0.78% increase. Brent Crude Oil also rose, finishing the session at $109.77 per barrel. Prices fluctuated throughout the day as traders reacted to conflicting signals regarding a proposed ceasefire and the threat of renewed bombing targeting energy infrastructure.
