Wall Street indexes signaled a slightly higher opening on Tuesday as market participants analyzed the potential impact of ongoing Middle East tensions on energy prices. This focus on inflation risks comes just as the Federal Reserve prepares for its two-day policy meeting. In the United States, equities had previously benefited from a technology-led recovery, with the S&P 500 recording its most significant daily gain in over a month.

Much of the market attention remains on the NVIDIA Corporation annual developer conference. The company recently projected that the revenue opportunity for its artificial intelligence chips could reach at least $1 trillion by 2027. Following this outlook, shares rose 0.4% in premarket trading. Meanwhile, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. saw a 0.6% increase, while Broadcom Inc. traded slightly lower.

The aviation sector found relief after Delta Air Lines, Inc. increased its revenue guidance for the current quarter, citing a surge in demand. Shares of the carrier jumped 5%, while American Airlines Group Inc. rose 4%. Conversely, energy producers including Occidental Petroleum Corporation, ConocoPhillips, and EQT Corporation each gained approximately 1% as crude and natural gas prices climbed.

The Federal Reserve is widely expected to maintain current interest rates at the conclusion of its meeting on Wednesday. Market sentiment has shifted, with rate futures now pricing in only one 25-basis-point cut by year-end, down from previous expectations. Peter Andersen, founder of Andersen Capital Management, noted the complexity of the current economic environment.

There are too many moving parts in a regular economy and then on top of it, we have this tremendously impactful conflict, which will make it even more impossible for the Fed to discern any patterns right now.

Economic pressures are being felt globally, as Australia recently raised interest rates to combat inflation. In the industrial sector, Honeywell International Inc. saw its shares slip 1.1% after warning that geopolitical conflict could impact its first-quarter revenue. This follows a similar warning from oilfield services provider SLB N.V..

Geopolitical tensions have also affected international relations, causing a delay in a planned summit between leaders from the U.S. and China. In other corporate news, Uber Technologies, Inc. shares climbed 4.1% following the announcement of a robotaxi rollout in 28 cities starting next year, powered by NVIDIA's autonomous driving software.
