US SPR to gain 40 million barrels from loan premiums
Energy Secretary Chris Wright announced that companies borrowing from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve will return an additional 40 million barrels as premiums once hostilities in Iran conclude. The Department of Energy is currently loaning 133 million barrels to stabilize markets at no cost to taxpayers.
United States Energy Secretary Chris Wright announced on Friday that companies will return 40 million barrels of crude to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) after the conflict in Iran ends. This replenishment follows the loan of 133 million barrels to private firms to stabilize global markets after the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran began in February. The structured recovery of these barrels via premiums aims to secure domestic supply at no cost to taxpayers.
