The United States dollar edged higher on Thursday as investors balanced optimism over a potential peace deal in the Middle East against reports of lingering diplomatic hurdles. Market attention is fixed on Iran, following comments from the White House suggesting that the conflict involving Israel might be nearing an end. Diplomatic efforts are expected to continue with upcoming discussions in Pakistan.

Despite the positive rhetoric, an Iranian official noted that significant gaps remain, particularly regarding nuclear policy. This news caused the EUR/USD to retreat to $1.1776, a 0.2% decline, after it had briefly touched levels above $1.18.

In the United Kingdom, the GBP/USD fell 0.1% to $1.3542. While February growth data for the region exceeded analyst expectations, the currency followed the broader trend of consolidation. The dollar index rose 0.21% to 98.22, attempting to recover from an eight-day losing streak that occurred as investors moved toward riskier assets.

Khoon Goh, the head of Asia research at ANZ, noted that the market is currently transitioning its focus.

Markets are now basically looking past the conflict and pricing that theres going to be some kind of settlement.

The USD/JPY pair showed little movement, trading at 158.96. This stability follows a meeting where officials from Japan and the U.S. Treasury discussed the importance of clear communication regarding foreign exchange rates.

Economic data from China provided a boost to regional sentiment, as the economy grew by 5% in the first quarter. This performance, driven by strong exports, supported the USD/CNH, which hovered near a three-year high at 6.8231.

The AUD/USD reached a four-year peak of $0.7197 before cooling. Employment data from Australia met expectations, leading traders to anticipate a high probability of a rate hike by the central bank in the coming month. Analysts in Hong Kong and Singapore continue to watch the situation closely as the global geopolitical landscape shifts.
