UK commits 20 million pounds to fight Ebola in Congo
The UK Foreign Office has pledged 20 million pounds to help contain an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The funding will support surveillance and infection control as the WHO warns of rising cases. Health officials are also monitoring travel routes to protect workers and the public.
The United Kingdom allocated up to £20 million ($26.87 million) in new aid to contain an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. As of Wednesday, 600 suspected cases and 139 suspected deaths had been reported. The intervention aims to support surveillance, protect frontline health workers, and improve infection prevention and control.
### Funding Targets Surveillance and Frontline Protection The UK Foreign Office announced the package on Thursday to support the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations agencies, and various non-governmental organizations. These funds will scale up infection prevention, improve surveillance, and protect frontline health workers. The WHO said the outbreak is expected to continue to grow.
