GB reached a remarkable milestone in 2025, with sales totaling 99,793 units. This represents a 46.3% increase from the previous year, marking the highest volume of green car sales in two decades. These vehicles now account for nearly 5% of all cars sold in the UK, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
This significant increase in green car sales coincides with a broader shift towards electrification within the UK automotive sector. In 2025, electrified vehicles, including battery-electric, hybrid-electric, and plug-in hybrid models, captured over 48% of the market share. The surge in sales of green-tinted battery-electric vehicles, which nearly doubled to 23,249 units, highlights a growing consumer association between the color green and environmental responsibility.
