UK economic growth surpasses expectations in November as car production rebounds

GBeconomy expanded by 0.3 percent on a month-on-month basis in November 2025. This growth exceeded the Reuters consensus forecast of 0.1 percent and represented the fastest monthly expansion since June 2025. The positive result follows a 0.1 percent monthly GDP decline in October 2025, which had been attributed to uncertainty surrounding the annual budget statement. In the three months to November, the overall economy grew by 0.1 percent.
Industrial output rose by 1.1 percent in November, primarily driven by a significant recovery in the UK automotive sector. Car production increased by 25.5 percent during the month, marking the largest monthly increase since July 2020. This surge was largely boosted by the return of Jaguar Land Rover to full production after a cyberattack had previously disrupted its operations and suppliers. Additionally, the UK services sector grew by 0.3 percent in November, reversing a 0.3 percent decline seen in October.
