UK auto production rebounds in August
UK vehicle production rose 5.7 percent in August to 40872 units driven by higher domestic demand. However the industry warned that proposed European Union trade provisions pose a serious threat to long term sector growth.
United Kingdom auto production rose 5.7% to 40,872 units in late summer, breaking a streak of volatility driven by scheduled plant shutdowns. The rebound was supported by domestic car demand, though exports to the European Union declined. The sector faces headwinds from prospective EU trade provisions that could impact long-term manufacturing output.
Car output climbed 6.1% to 39,328 units during the month, marking the strongest growth since December 2025. Exports to Australia, Japan, and the United States recorded the largest gains among the top 10 export markets. Conversely, shipments to China fell 15%, while exports to the EU dropped 7.4%. Despite the decline, the EU remained the country's largest overseas market, absorbing 54.1% of total car shipments.
