Uber and JSW Group Partner on India Electric Vehicle Push
Uber and JSW Group have signed an agreement to develop and deploy electric vehicles tailored for the Indian ride-hailing market. The partnership aims to scale EV adoption following JSW MG Motor's recent commitment to invest 440 million dollars in expanding its domestic manufacturing capacity.
UBER TECHNOLOGIES INC signed an agreement with JSW Group to develop and deploy electric vehicles across India. The partnership will tailor EVs for the domestic ride-hailing market. The companies did not disclose financial details.
JSW Group's joint venture with China-based SAIC Motor, called JSW MG Motor, is already investing in India's EV sector. The venture announced a $440 million investment to expand its Indian factory and launch new hybrid and electric models. EVs accounted for 7.29% of India's total auto sales in the third quarter of fiscal year 2026, with two- and three-wheelers making up the bulk of purchases, according to the Indian Brand Equity Foundation.
