Canada's main stock index rallied 809.12 points, or 2.3%, to 36,341.40 on Wednesday in its biggest daily gain in seven months. The S&P/TSX Composite Index reached its highest closing level since September 4, driven by broad-based market relief. The rally followed the Democratic Party winning control of Congress in United States midterm elections, which investors view as a check on presidential policies.
