SEMI Forecasts Global Chip Sales to Hit 1 Trillion Dollars
SEMI expects chip sales to hit 1 trillion dollars this year due to AI demand. CEO Ajit Manocha says material shortages remain a key risk for long-term growth.
Global chip industry group SEMI expects worldwide semiconductor sales to reach $1 trillion this year, driven by data center demand for artificial intelligence. The forecast suggests the market will double to $2 trillion by 2035 despite ongoing supply chain disruptions in the Middle East. Raw material shortages may affect the longer-term outlook as governments work to secure critical gases like helium and bromine for manufacturing.
SEMI chief executive Ajit Manocha told Reuters on Tuesday that geopolitical risks are unlikely to curtail the semiconductor boom this year. He noted that while this year appears secure, persistent shortages of raw materials could impact the longer-term outlook.
