Samsung Plans 1.5 Billion Dollar Vietnam Chip Plant
Samsung Electronics has proposed a 1.5 billion dollar semiconductor testing facility north of Hanoi to boost global supplies of DRAM and NAND memory chips. The project aims to begin operations by November 2027 and marks the South Korean group's first chip testing factory in the country.
SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS CO LTD plans to invest 39 trillion dong ($1.5 billion) to build its first semiconductor testing plant in Vietnam. The facility in Thai Nguyen province targets legacy chip production to address memory shortages driven by AI demand. This expansion solidifies Vietnam's role as a back-end hub while Samsung secures capacity for mature DRAM and NAND components.
Construction on the site began since April, with operations slated to start in November 2027. A proposal document reviewed by Reuters shows the factory will deliver 153.3 billion gigabits of DRAM annually. It will also produce 255.6 billion gigabits of NAND memory chips.
