Russian and U.S. Officials Discuss Global Energy Crisis
Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev met U.S. officials in Florida to discuss the energy crisis. They reviewed supply issues after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev confirmed on Thursday that he has engaged in high-level discussions with officials from the United States regarding the worsening global energy crisis. The meetings took place in Florida as part of the U.S.-Russia working group on the economy, aimed at addressing the severe supply disruptions currently impacting international markets.
The energy landscape has been significantly altered following the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a move that occurred shortly after the outbreak of conflict involving Israel and the U.S. against Iran on February 28. This closure has trapped approximately 20 million barrels per day of oil—nearly 20% of the world's total output—within the Gulf region.
