Two major airlines from Russia
RU, Rossiya and Severny Veter, also known as Nordwind, have announced plans to fly Russian tourists out of Cuba
CU over the coming days. Following these final outbound flights, both carriers intend to suspend their operations to the island due to a reported total lack of available jet fuel. The decision comes after Cuban authorities issued a warning that jet fuel supplies would be exhausted as of Tuesday, creating an immediate disruption for international airlines serving the region.
Rossiya, which operates as part of the PJSC Aeroflot - Russian Airlines group, and Severny Veter are responding to a critical fuel supply crisis that has brought sector-level impacts to a halt. Rosaviatsia, the Russian aviation regulator, is coordinating with the carriers as they prioritize the return of travelers currently on the island. The suspension of service is expected to remain in place until the fuel shortage eases, though the airlines have not provided a specific date for the resumption of regular schedules.
