Russia dispatched its first eastward liquefied natural gas tanker of the year through the Northern Sea Route on May 28. The Christophe de Margerie departed nearly a month earlier than the first 2024 shipment, which began in late June. This early transit signals Moscow's intent to bypass Western sanctions and Suez Canal security risks by accelerating Arctic trade with Asia.
