Romania Takes Steps to Cool Cernavoda Plant
Romania approved emergency measures to raise Danube water levels and cool the shuttered Cernavoda nuclear plant. Plans include dredging, a new groyne, and water releases to restore operations.

Romania approved emergency measures on Saturday morning to raise water levels on the River Danube and cool the halted Cernavoda nuclear plant. The intervention follows a state of emergency declared across the country throughout August due to plunging electricity output. The plant remains offline amid historically low river levels, threatening regional power supplies.
