Oil prices retreated on Friday as international efforts to secure maritime trade routes intensified and the United States signaled potential measures to increase global supply. Brent crude futures declined by $1.24, or 1.1%, to reach $107.41 per barrel, while West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude dropped $1.24, or 1.3%, to $94.90.

Despite the daily dip, Brent remained on course for a weekly gain of over 4% following recent strikes by Iran against energy infrastructure in the Gulf. Conversely, WTI was set for its first weekly loss in five weeks, trading at its widest discount to Brent in 11 years.

A coalition of nations, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and the Netherlands, alongside Japan, issued a joint statement confirming their commitment to protecting the Strait of Hormuz.

We express our readiness to contribute to appropriate efforts to ensure safe passage through the Strait, through which 20% of the worlds oil and LNG transit.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent suggested that sanctions on Iranian oil currently held on tankers might be lifted to curb soaring prices. Additionally, the administration is considering further releases from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve. President Donald Trump also addressed regional tensions, noting he had advised the Prime Minister of Israel against further strikes on energy infrastructure.

I told him, Dont do that, and he wont do that.

In terms of domestic supply, North Dakota’s crude output is expected to rise as operators restart inactive wells and winter restrictions ease. While the energy sector remains volatile, industrial entities such as Oiles Corporation continue to monitor how these supply shifts and geopolitical developments influence global manufacturing costs.
