Senior Oil Workers at Seplat Energy Begin Indefinite Strike
PENGASSAN union members began an indefinite strike at Seplat Energy on Friday over welfare disputes. The action impacts Nigeria's largest independent producer.
Workers at SEPLAT ENERGY PLC, the largest independent oil and gas producer in Nigeria, have initiated an indefinite strike. The industrial action, which began on Friday, comes at a critical time as rising prices for Brent Crude Oil increase the pressure on the country to maximize its energy supply.
The strike was organized by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), a union representing professional oil staff. According to letters sent to the company's leadership, the move follows a breakdown in negotiations regarding a 2026 collective bargaining agreement and various staff welfare issues. The union indicated that the suspension of operations would remain in effect until further notice.
